Instructions for Authors

General Submission Guidelines

Authors must follow the guidelines detailed below to prepare and submit their manuscripts. Adhering to these specifications guarantees faster processing and publication of your research papers.

We accept research and review articles in the following medical and health science scopes:

All manuscripts must be written in comprehensive, concise, and complete English, adhering to high-quality academic language standards.

Document Format Specifications

• Prepare the manuscript in Times New Roman font, utilizing a font size of 11pt.
• The manuscript title must be in 14pt font, bold, and in uppercase.
• Main section headings must be in 12pt font, bold, and in uppercase.
• Subsection subheadings must be in 12pt font, bold, and in title case.
• Italics should not be used in the main text body, except for scientific, biological, or Latin names.
• Devanagari script may be used to cite verses (shlokas) for Ayurvedic references. The specific font files utilized must be emailed along with the submission.
• Words from Sanskrit, Marathi, Hindi, or any other Indian languages should be italicized.
• The email ID of all authors is compulsory.
• The total number of authors should not exceed 3.
• Any part of an article critical to the main conclusions must be the responsibility of at least one author.
• All submissions are subjected to a rigorous peer review process.

Manuscript Specifications & Types

Manuscripts are accepted on the understanding that the authors have obtained the necessary institutional permissions and clearances for publication.

Accepted Manuscript Formats

• Original Research Papers: Maximum page limit is 8 pages. File size for accompanying tables and figures should be between 2 MB and 4 MB.
• Review Articles: Articles addressing current medical concepts or public health concerns. Maximum page limit is 8 pages.
• Case Presentations: Detailed case reports. Maximum page limit is 5 pages.

Layout & Page Setup

• Manuscripts must be single-spaced throughout, including tables, graphs, and figures, with 1 inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides.
• Each table must be numbered and include a table heading (e.g. Table 1: Table Heading).
• Each figure must be numbered and include a figure caption (e.g. Figure 1: Figure Caption).
• Accompanying figures should be provided in high-quality JPEG format.
• Do not embed hyperlinks or footnotes within the manuscript text.
• The text must begin with a Title Page, followed by sections arranged in this exact order:
  Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion (or Results & Discussion), References, Acknowledgements, and Tables/Figures with descriptive titles and legends.

Detailed Section Requirements

Title Page

• The title must be brief and comprehensively represent the findings as written in the abstract.
• Do not use abbreviations in the title or abstract, and limit their use within the main text.
• Provide full author names (surname first, followed by first and middle names). Do not prepend salutations (Mr., Mrs., Prof., Dr.).
• List institutional addresses for each author and identify the corresponding author with active communication details (mobile number and email address).
• Number all pages sequentially beginning with the title page.

Abstract & Keywords

• Abstract: Must not exceed 250 words. It should be clear and factual, presenting the Study Aims, Objectives, Methodology, Observations, and Principal Conclusions.
• Keywords: Provide up to 8 relevant keywords below the abstract. Avoid hyphenating keyword terms.

Introduction, Results, & Discussion

• Introduction: A concise account of the subject background, its significance, and relationship to earlier work. Clearly state the purpose of the study. Avoid an extensive review of the literature in this section.
• Results: State original and important findings in a logical sequence. Illustrate results with tables or figures where necessary, keeping them to a minimum. Results must be precise, comprehensive, and clear.
• Discussion: Provide a critical evaluation of the study results, supported by relevant published literature.
• Acknowledgements: Acknowledge financial support (grants), equipment, or gift samples. Only list personnel who made essential contributions. State the name of the expert who authenticated any botanical specimens.

Materials & Methods (Ethical Standards)

• Methodology must be presented with sufficient clarity and detail to allow the experiment to be repeated. Validated analysis methods must be highlighted.
• Experiments on human subjects must be conducted in accordance with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) protocols and approved by an Institutional Ethical Committee (IEC).
• For research utilizing laboratory animals, guidelines from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (Government of India) and OECD notified guidelines must be strictly followed. Indicate in the methods section that measures were taken to minimize animal pain.
• Specify chemical reaction mechanisms where applicable. Use System International (SI) measurements.
• For plant materials, deposit voucher specimens at designated herbariums and cite their official accession number in the manuscript. Outline herb selection rationale and TLC spot test characterization.

References & Citation Formatting

Citations must follow the formats below to preserve editorial uniformity:

Internet References

Electronic sources are categorized into three main formats:

• Websites/Web Pages: Homepages of organizations or medical resources.
• Complete Works: Online reports, research databases, or online books.
• Online Journal Articles: Journal articles hosted on the internet.

Ethical Statements & Consent

All material published in NCISM: NCISM must adhere to high ethical standards concerning animal welfare and human rights. Manuscripts will be considered for publication only if the work detailed therein satisfies the following guidelines:

1. Follows national, institutional, and international guidelines (such as the NIH Guidelines for care and use of animals, or European Communities Council Directive 86/609/EEC) for humane treatment.
2. Has been approved by the ethical review committee at the institution where the research was conducted.
3. For clinical trials involving client-owned animals, demonstrates a high standard of veterinary care and incorporates informed client consent.
4. Confirms in the cover letter that all ethical requirements have been met, and details measures taken to minimize animal discomfort in the methods section.
